The Power Module is a high power-density device based on Pacific Lithium's high power lithium-ion technology. Designed for discharges of typically 10 to 90 seconds, the Power Module is a flat-cell "power-pack" that provides a unique combination of high power and high energy unachievable by conventional batteries, capacitors or flywheels. And unlike conventional lithium-ion batteries, stable and safe high voltage and high power systems can be built using the Power Module as a building block.

Pacific Lithium's high power technology was developed for applications such as power quality, power backup, providing ride-through capability in combination with fuel cell systems, diesel generators or microturbines, and for new hybrid electric vehicle technology. The Power Module represents a first proof-of-concept which can be used as a building block for high power systems with different requirements. Alternatively, the underlying technology can be reconfigured to develop new products tailored to specific applications.

Safe active materials.
Pacific Lithium's active materials are not based on graphite or other carbonaceous compounds and provide therefore safe operation, even in high-voltage configurations and during fast recharge conditions. The active materials are based on low cost raw materials and are easy to manufacture in large volumes.

A unique flat-cell architecture for maximum power.
The Power Module is built using a unique flat-cell architecture for highly efficient current collection, maximum power and ease of electrical connection in series and/or in parallel without using electric cables, welds, or nuts and bolts. Individual cells are stacked in series and packaged in higher-voltage units. This provides a robust system where high voltage is built up in a simple stack configuration, and where it is only necessary to monitor higher-voltage units rather than every cell.

Modular architecture.
The Power Module is packaged in individual battery units that can be combined in series and parallel to meet the voltage and power requirements of any application.

Fast recharge between discharges.
The choice of electrode materials and design of the Power Module allows the system to be recharged within minutes, even from a full discharge.

Power provided within a narrow voltage range.
Unlike supercapacitors and flywheels, the Power Module provides power during discharge over a more narrow voltage range, facilitating power management.

Extended calendar life and cycle life.
The unique stabilised chemistry of Pacific Lithium's
Power Module results in a device with longer calendar life and cycle life than conventional lithium-ion systems. More than 4,000 deep discharge cycles and 300,000 pulse discharges have been demonstrated to date, with minimum fade and very low increase in internal resistance.
